2018 municipal election nominations close 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 27

 

OSHAWA – Nominations for individuals seeking to be a candidate during the 2018 Municipal and School Board elections will close at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018.

Nominations will be accepted by the City Clerk for the following offices:

  • Mayor
  • Regional and City Councillor, Ward 1
  • Regional and City Councillor, Ward 2
  • Regional and City Councillor, Ward 3
  • Regional and City Councillor, Ward 4
  • Regional and City Councillor, Ward 5
  • City Councillor, Ward 1
  • City Councillor, Ward 2
  • City Councillor, Ward 3
  • City Councillor, Ward 4
  • City Councillor, Ward 5
  • Trustee, Durham District School Board
  • Trustee, Durham Catholic District School Board
  • Counseiller(ère), Conseil scolaire Viamonde
  • Counseiller(ère), Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir

City Clerk Services is encouraging all prospective candidates to make an appointment to file a nomination paper by contacting City Clerk Services at 905-436-3311 or by email.

To file a nomination, candidates are required pay a filing fee and complete the forms found in the candidate information package. Additionally, nominations for an office on Oshawa City Council must be endorsed by at least 25 qualified persons. A nomination paper lacking 25 original signatures cannot be accepted by the City Clerk. For clarity, a qualified person is someone who is eligible to vote if an election was to be held on the day the person endorses the nomination paper. Candidates should ensure that each individual endorsing their nomination paper is a qualified person.

The filing fee is $200.00 for the office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices. This fee may be paid by cash, debit, certified cheque, or any other method approved by the City Clerk.

Prospective candidates are required to provide valid photo identification when the nomination package is submitted.

Nominations for the Office of Regional Chair will be accepted by the Regional Clerk at Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, Ontario.
