Mackie Harley-Davidson has been active in the Oshawa community for more than 10 years. In the past year Mackie Harley-Davidson has sponsored the Lakeridge Health Foundation Golf Classic, the Ride for Sick Kids and the Denim & Diamonds Gala. In addition, Mackie Harley-Davidson has also supported charity fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity and The Humane Society of Durham Region. Their sponsorships have helped the charities raise more than $350,000 in 2014 and the Ride for Sick Kids saw the participation of more than 600 riders and rose over $20,000 for the Hospital for Sick Children. Paul Mackie continues to sit as a board member on the Lakeridge Health Foundation. The staff participate in the 5K Furry Friends in support of the Durham Region Animal Shelter as well as the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of ALS. Roughley Insurance has donated either time or prizes for fundraisers to Big Brothers Big Sisters (Ajax-Pickering), Epilepsy Durham, Oshawa Community Health Centre and the Humane Society of Durham and in 2014, instead of running their own backpack program helping students who may not be able to afford school supplies get the supplies they need, Roughley Insurance opted to participate in the Simcoe Hall Settlement House’s Backpacks for Success Program. Wally’s World Restaurant, located at 1100 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa, has been proudly serving Oshawa and surrounding areas since 1980. Open 24/7 they pride themselves on the quality of food and service they provide for their clients. Wally’s World has contributed more then just great food to our community; they contribute to many charitable causes, like the “Dear Santa” event and hosting a free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day for anyone in need. If you can pay for the dinner, the proceeds collected are donated to the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto and Cornerstone Men’s Shelter in Oshawa. Team Canada Black Belt Institute (TCBBI), located at their new location, 2795 Ritson Road North in Oshawa (NE corner of Ritson and Winchester) has been very active ‘behind the scenes’ making contributions to the community. Their new location is the former Knights of Columbus Park. Courtice Flea Market located at 1696 Bloor Street in Courtice sits on 12 acres with three buildings, outdoor vendor space, food vendors and restaurants plus Sundays, between May and November, an Outdoor Farmer’s Market. It is one of the few remaining authentic flea markets left in Ontario. Whatever you’re looking for, there’s a good chance you’ll find it at the Market! Courtice Flea Market has been a proud supporter of community events and local charitable organizations since it opened its doors in 1992. The Market extends an invitation for community groups to use a booth (one weekend per year) at no charge. Community groups can use the space to raise funds for their organization, to promote an upcoming event or to promote the organization itself. Hosting the Wild Hog Hillbilly Show and Celebrity Pig Races and the Children’s Centre Charity Book Sale with proceeds directly benefiting the Grandview Children’s Centre, the staff is happy to give back to their community! Grandview offers programs and services for children with special needs, from infancy to adolescent age.
