Durham Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Trades and Feed the Need in Durham Collaborate to Support Community Health Across Durham Region – one Lysol® Wipe at a Time

DURHAM REGION, ON – Businesses and community organizations across Durham Region will have an opportunity to be part of a Lysol® Wipes distribution program, courtesy of Reckitt, the makers of Lysol® disinfection products in Canada, Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), Ajax- Pickering Board of Trade, Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, Clarington Board of Trade and Feed the Need in Durham. This is an initiative that contributes another layer of confidence and security in relation to supporting safe workplaces and public health.

In July 2021, Reckitt asked the Ontario Chamber of Commerce if any of their member Chambers and Boards of Trade have the interest and resources to distribute a tractor-trailer load of thousands of packages of disinfection wipes to businesses and community organizations. Confident in their leadership, the OCC reached out to the Joint Chambers in Durham Region to undertake this initiative. Comprised of the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade, Whitby Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and Clarington Board of Trade, the committee collaboratively executes projects that create value and supports business continuity for members of the business community across Durham Region.

To ensure the success of the project, the Joint Chambers has partnered with Feed the Need in Durham, requesting their support in receiving and temporarily housing the disinfection wipes. This collaboration has created the opportunity for community organizations and businesses to pick up the wipes for their workplace from Feed the Need in Durham at no charge to ensure a safe and healthy environment.  Pick-up is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 9 AM -Noon at 371 Marwood Drive, Oshawa, west side of the building. Some Boards of Trade and Chambers of Commerce will also have a supply of wipes on-hand for businesses in their communities. The remainder will be distributed by Feed the Need in Durham to other local food shelters, community organizations and people in need.

The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade, Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and Clarington Board of Trade provide a collaborative platform by offering programs and implementing initiatives that support the needs and growth of the business community. This initiative will help ensure businesses have an extra layer of protection in place from COVID-19 to protect their customers, employees, and their workplace.

Feed the Need in Durham is the regional food distribution hub for emergency food providers across Durham Region. FTND’s primary mission is to collect/rescue, process and distribute as much food and other product as possible to our frontline providers, including food banks, emergency meal programs, shelters, in-school nutritional programs and other social service agencies supporting clients facing food insecurity. With the support of our caring community and dedicated volunteers, Feed the Need has shared over 2.6 million pounds, since April 2020, with those who need it most in Durham Region.
