April 16, 2016 – Downtown Oshawa is home to a new hotel with the recent opening of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Oshawa at 67 Simcoe Street North (northeast corner of Simcoe Street North and Richmond Street East). The new $25 million, 6-storey hotel includes 125 guest rooms and suites, an indoor heated pool, 24-hour fitness facilities and underground parking. The convention centre will open later in 2016. A full service restaurant is also planned for the building.
“We succeeded in delivering to our promise of bringing a brand hotel to Oshawa’s downtown. We still stand by the belief that there are numerous growth opportunities in this city and that is what kept us going throughout this endeavor. Bringing the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Oshawa Convention Centre to downtown Oshawa will help it realize its destination potential,” said Ali Rehman, Vice-President, Chayell Hospitality Group.
“We are positive that quality accommodation in downtown Oshawa will not only complement existing businesses including the GM Centre, it will also attract and build confidence of other developers to invest in downtown Oshawa,” said Abdul Rehman, President, Chayell Hospitality Group.
“My family and I are extremely happy about our participation and contribution to the new City of Oshawa Strategic Plan, Our Focus, Our Future,” added Abdul Rehman. “We are pleased that we were able to fulfill our commitment and deliver quality accommodation that has already started to make a positive change in downtown Oshawa.”
The new development contributes to the continued revitalization of Oshawa’s downtown in keeping with Plan 20Twenty for Downtown Oshawa and the Oshawa Strategic Plan, Our Focus, Our Future.
Now open, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Oshawa supports the local business, education and healthcare communities, in addition to the City’s numerous cultural, sporting and entertainment facilities and events, by providing high quality accommodations in the city’s centre.
“It is my honour to congratulate Ali and Abdul Rehman on the opening of Holiday Inn Express & Suites in downtown Oshawa,” said Mayor John Henry. “Guests of Oshawa and the Durham Region are provided with another brand name hotel to stay in while they attend events, business meetings or a vacation getaway. We welcome Holiday Inn Express & Suites to the City of Oshawa.”
