Friday, August 31, 2007: I’am sure you saw in the Globe and Mail this morning the article by Greg Keenan that GM will be cutting a shift at their Oshawa pick up truck plant sometime in the new year costing Canada about a 1,000 jobs.  Let me tell you what this is NOT about. It is not about GM.

Chamber Past President Walk of Fame Inductee

On behalf  of the Walk of Fame committee and co-chair Joanne Burghardt, Mayor John Gray, recently announced that former Premier and Past President of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Gordon Conant, lawyer Terence Kelly and actress Tonya Lee Williams will be inducted into the Oshawa Walk of Fame at a ceremony this fall.

DURHAM PROSPERITY CONFERENCE UPDATE

The prosperity conference held last October was a joint effort between the University Of Ontario Institute Of Technology, the Region of Durham Economic Development and Tourism Department, the regional Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, and the Economic Development Offices of Ajax, Beaverton, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge, and Whitby.

 

In March Mr. Richard Marceau, Provost, University of Ontario Institute of Technology .and Mr. Norm Mackie from Mackie Moving Systems co-chairs of the conference released the report on the Durham Economic Prosperity Conference to the Regional Chair, Mayors, all Municipal & Regional Councillors and to the participants.

Start Profiling Your Business The “Chamber Way”!

Every year, the Chamber canvasses the businesses and organizations within our membership in search of individuals interested in volunteering on Chamber projects, events, committees and our Board of Directors.

The time for the canvass is now! Our committee year begins September 1st each year.  Unlike a number of organizations in which a volunteer position might be seen as a lifelong appointment, the Chamber’s Constitution and Bylaws have limits to maintain a balance between continuity and fresh thinking.
