Oshawa’s VIA Rail service is on track to receive major improvements as part of VIA’s Corridor Improvement Program—the largest-ever improvement and investment program in the 153-year history of passenger rail service in the Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto triangle.
The Oshawa project proposes rail track improvements and a completely renovated VIA station, which will include improved and expanded facilities. Also part of the plan is a new island platform that will be connected to the station by a new fully-accessible overhead walkway. The station improvements are expected to commence in the fall and be complete in 2011. During this time, the existing station will remain in operation.
Residents can expect that during construction, while work crews are working on the tracks, trains will be required to sound their whistles, including at night. VIA’s commitment is to ensure that all work is done as safely and efficiently as possible.
