  • 76% thought that reducing the size of government was a top priority
  • 30% have had difficulty hiring someone with the right qualifications
  • 66% of GTHA businesses support the need for new revenue tools to fund transit infrastructure in the GTHA

Over 100 leaders from Ontario’s agriculture and food processing sectors gathered at the agri-food summit in Huron County–Canada’s largest food producing region east of the prairies. Delegates identified the main barriers to the sector’s growth, including regulatory obstacles, lack of access to capital, difficulty retaining young talent, and insufficient infrastructure. Premier Wynne, Minister of Agriculture and Food, was on hand to address the gathering. Read more…

ALTERNATIVE SERVICE DELIVERY

Later this month the OCC in partnership with Certified General Accountants of Ontario will release a report on opportunities for alternative service delivery (ASD) in Ontario. When correctly implemented, ASD lowers public sector costs, improves service quality, and boosts sagging public sector productivity by leveraging private sector capital, technology, and expertise.

ACCESSIBILITY

Stay tuned in May for our report on how government can improve the labour market attachment of postsecondary graduates with disabilities and connect them with SME employers across Ontario.

FUNDING THE BIG MOVE IN THE GTHA

The OCC, in partnership with GTHA chambers of commerce and boards of trade, are in the process of engaging businesses across the GTHA on potential revenue tools to fund The Big Move, Metrolinx’s plan to transform transportation in the region. Stay tuned in upcoming months for our summary report from these consultations.
