Please join the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and The Durham Economic Prosperity Committee with Glenna Carr, Chair of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, for a special luncheon address to hear about the opportunities that the worldwide nuclear renaissance can provide to the Greater Oshawa area.
The luncheon is at Best Western Durham, 559 Bloor Street West, Oshawa on Thursday, March 19th. The luncheon begins at 12:00 noon with Glenna Carr speaking at approximately 1:00 p.m. Energy, and in particular nuclear energy, is back on the agenda in a big way. Current projections show that worldwide economic and industrial growth will lead to a doubling of electricity consumption by 2030. Put into perspective, that’s the equivalent of Canada developing a new electricity grid every two years. Nuclear power appears to be well positioned to play an ever increasing role in the future when you factor in concerns about climate change. Glenna Carr is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL) She has served on 18 boards including profit and not for profit corporations in energy, education, health and public safety, as Chair of the Independent Electricity System Operator, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, President of the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships and several boards of colleges, universities and hospitals. Ms. Carr has senior executive experience as Vice President of Laidlaw Inc., CEO of a Canadian consulting firm and Ontario Deputy Minister of Skills Development, Consumer and Commercial Relations, and Management Board of Cabinet. Ms. Carr received the Canadian Champion Award for Innovation and Excellence in 2001 and is dedicated to improving economic and human capital benefits for Canadians.
