Warming centres and stations open in Oshawa
OSHAWA – To assist unsheltered individuals in our community in getting relief from the cold this winter, warming centre and warming station information is now available at www.oshawa.ca/warmingcalendar on the City of Oshawa website.
The Warming Calendar, developed by The Gap Committee provides information on the various social services agencies and faith based organizations that are open as warming centres during the winter months, including days of the week, locations and operating hours.
The calendar also includes details on the First Light Foundation of Hope (located at 253 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa) overnight warming station that is open Thursday December 19, Friday, December 20 and Saturday December 21 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Additionally, those who attend the overnight warming station may opt to place their pet in the care of City of Oshawa staff for the evening; transportation for the animals will be provided to Oshawa Animal Services starting at 10 p.m. and back to First Light Foundation of Hope at 5 a.m.
The Gap Committee facilitates collaboration between people with lived experience, service providers and community members to help fill in the gaps in services and find shared solutions to help those who are unsheltered and vulnerable in Durham Region.
