Known provincially as the Civic holiday, on Monday, August 6 the City of Oshawa observes McLaughlin Day, celebrating Colonel R.S. McLaughlin and his love for Oshawa. The City of Oshawa first celebrated McLaughlin Day in 1983 to honour the late Colonel RS. McLaughlin, an industrial pioneer in the Canadian automotive industry; who contributed greatly and generously to the quality of life of the citizens of Oshawa, in medical care facilities, recreation, literature, culture, science and education.
