Third Straight Month of Employment Growth Marks Ontario’s Ongoing Economic Recovery

TORONTO – Today, Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, issued the following statement on Statistics Canada’s monthly employment release:

“Today, Statistics Canada released its monthly employment numbers which showed an increase in Ontario of 141,800 jobs in August. This marks the third straight month of employment increases, a notable milestone as the province implements our made-in-Ontario plan for growth, renewal and economic recovery.

In the month of July employment increased by 150,700, and in the month of June 377,900 jobs were added, including 66,200 in the manufacturing sector.

While these numbers are positive, we have a long way to go to achieve a full economic recovery. As the fall approaches, we will continue to work with our world-class entrepreneurs and innovators, and prioritize made-in-Ontario solutions so that we can shape a sustainable economic climate that will benefit all Ontarians in every region of the province.

Over the last several months, our government has been meeting with people from across the province who have shown incredible resilience throughout this pandemic. Right from the start, Ontarians stepped up immediately to offer their help and innovative ideas. The response from business owners, workers, communities, and people from across the province has been incredible – they have continued to demonstrate the best of the Ontario Spirit, and we wouldn’t be where we are now without their collective efforts.

Whether it’s making investments through the Ontario Together Fund or supporting the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters’ Ontario Made program, we are working each and every day to ensure a strong economic recovery. By continuing to work together, we will maintain our place as the economic engine of Canada and emerge from this pandemic a more united and resilient province than ever before.”
