Feed The Need In Durham Initiates A Crisis-Driven “Call To Action”

June, 29, 2015 – Feed the Need in Durham initiates a Durham-wide “call to action” to address the crisis in their warehouse. Shelves are running bare as they struggle to meet the needs of food banks, shelters and other social services agencies across the Region. Summer is traditionally a lean time in the food banking world. 1 in 3 food bank users are children. School programs are no longer available therefore families rely even more heavily on food banking agencies. Hunger tends to be more associated to, and recognizable in, the colder weather. People are out enjoying the warm weather and minds are often elsewhere as vacations and long weekends draw near.

FTND believes “that hunger should not be the reason to prevent anyone from the chance to fulfill their potential”. They provide perishable and non-perishable food items to over 50 member agencies across the Durham Region. FTND distributes approximately 150,000 lbs of food per month to food banking and social service agencies.

Feed the Need in Durham is calling Durham residents and businesses to action.

Join their fight to alleviate hunger in our communities. Run a food drive. Hold a fundraiser. Donate online. Every dollar donated can purchase three meals for someone in need.

Most needed items include canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, beans and peanut butter.

Durham Region, your community needs your help this summer. For more information on how you can help, please contact 905-571-3863, or online at www.ftnd.ca
