September 1, 2015 – Oshawa’s airport has a new business plan and with it, a new name. Since opening in the early 1940s as a British Commonwealth Air Training Field, the Oshawa airport has undergone numerous changes. Today, the executive-level regional airport is owned and operated by the City of Oshawa and plays an important role in supporting emergency services, general aviation and attracting and retaining aviation businesses, as well as providing economic benefits to Oshawa and the Region.
Endorsed by Council in June 2015, the new 2015-2019 Airport Business Plan establishes a framework and go-forward strategy for the operation of the airport. The operational and marketing components of the Business Plan cover a five-year term while capital considerations cover a 20-year term.
Under the recommendations of the Plan, the name of the airport has been changed to the Oshawa Executive Airport.
The Oshawa Executive Airport supports corporate business travel and general aviation with dual runways, modern navigational aids, on-site Canada Customs, a NAV Canada control tower and a variety of aviation services.
