August 27, 2015 – Smart and Intelligent Communities, Gigabit cities and the internet of things are terms receiving a lot of attention from municipal and business leaders around the world. Veridian, the largest electric utility serving Pickering, Ajax, Clarington, North Durham, Port Hope and Gravenhurst, recently held a roundtable of municipal leaders and Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade from across Durham Region and Northumberland County.
It was designed to share information on key developments in smart and intelligent communities from across Ontario, Canada and in North America. Initiatives led by the municipalities in Eastern Ontario and South Western Ontario were reviewed. Veridian will be following up with all the participants to try and identify gaps in high speed broadband access as well as the potential for pooled services that may form the basis for a smart and intelligent community strategy in Durham Region and Northumberland County.
