Sept 24, 2014 - As this is the first time we will be electing a Regional Chair, the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce felt it was important to inform the business community and therefore posed four questions to each of the candidates on September 18th and asked each to reply to the Chamber no later than Noon Wednesday September 24, 2014 to meet our press deadline. The questions were about Nuclear, Metrolinx, Interest Arbitration and the candidate’s expertise. Sept. 20, 2014 - The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Ryerson University and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to help turn the tide on youth unemployment and address the skills gap. The Chamber is announcing Magnet, a leading-edge networking platform that will help employers in Oshawa connect with recent graduates and qualified candidates.

The Magnet network has one goal: to ensure that individuals within its network are matched to promising job opportunities and that organizations connect to qualified candidates.

Sept. 9, 2014: The Government of Ontario must ensure that upcoming changes to the province’s training and employment programs reflect the needs of employers, according to a new report released by the Greater Oshawa Chamber, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Essential Skills Ontario. 

The call comes as the government works to reinvent the way that many training and employment programs are delivered in the province by giving employers a more direct role in the type of training their workers receive. The bulk of these programs will be supported through the Canada-Ontario Job Grant, which will cover two-thirds of the cost of training a current or prospective worker, with government chipping in up to $10,000.

On August 21, 2014 Bob Malcolmson CEO & GM of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce attended a Minister of Transport consultative roundtable session in Markham with senior key business stakeholders. The Honourable Lisa Raitt, P.C., M.P., updated the group on the department’s progress on the development and management of the Pickering Lands and to listen to any further views on this topic. In attendance were business leaders from the GTA Airports including Hamilton, Kitchener Waterloo, Billy Bishop Buttonville and the GTAA. Also representing the air carriers were Porter, Air Canada and Westjet as well as representatives from various industry associations.
